Lemlem Kitchen

I discovered Lem Lem Kitchen last year when I returned to my familiar haunt in London on a Saturday; Broadway Market. Street food abounds and you can pretty much find any food from any country right here in this market (well I might be exaggerating there but not too far off the mark). I used to go for the fantastic Gujurati food (another story) but last year I found Lem Lem Kitchen in the permanent pitch in Westgate Street). Alongside the Texan barbecue and the bao stall you find the perfect Eritrean food. They specialise in 'African tacos'; an enticing mix of injera (teff flour tortillas) and wheat  tortillas with spicy fillings.

So what do you get; these great 'tacos' with a split pea spicy filling and two flavourful slaws with fennel, beetroot and carrot. This street food is fresh, zingy and probably some of the best food I have ever tasted.  I think I will be saying bye bye to fine dining food if you can get reasonably priced street food like this. I cannot sing the praises of Lemlem Kitchen enough.  Desperate to get back and try it again.

Oh, and they served these tasty fries as well - shiro fries with a spicy chickpea sauce and asmarino salsa.

If you live in London or nearby hastily beat a path to Broadway Market on a Saturday and make sure you try Lemlem Kitchen. You will not be disappointed.

Badrijani Nigvzit - Georgian Aubergine and Walnut Rolls
Discovered this dish last year whilst enjoying the amazing aubergines from local Linscombe Farm. The recipe comes from the website 'The Georgian Table' which I followed with some variations. My walnuts were not quite a ground up as in the recipe but it appears to be the norm that the walnut and garlic mixture for the filling is a paste.  This is a very simple dish that packs a punch with the garlic and provides the all round satisfaction of the traditional but remarkable pairing of aubergine and walnuts.  This is going to be a welcome addition to my summer dinners.
